Nathaniel Parker, Jessica Brown Finlay, and Greg Wise are among the stars slated to appear in a new BBC One adaptation of the award winning novel The Outcast. Both the novel and the TV show were penned by writer Sadie Jones who has been working on a screen version of the story since 2008. Originally planned as movie, the saga was eventually developed as a two part screenplay for the BBC.
The story revolves around Lewis, a young boy in 1950s Britain who has been neglected by his father since the death of his mother. When his father remarries, Lewis slips further down his surviving parents’ list of priorities and gets caught up in a self-destructive downward spiral. He seeks solace in the company of some neighboring youngsters who themselves are having to deal with a physically abusive father. Things deteriorate yet further and eventually Lewis commits a grave act of defiance. Is this the end for him or can an unlikely romance save the day? Exact broadcast dates have yet to be announced.
