Hollywood hard man Gabriel Byrne is set to start in a new Anglo-Irish drama called Quirke. The series is being co-produced by the BBC, Element Pictures and Tyrone Productions.
Based on books by the novelist Benjamin Black (AKA John Banville) the series centers around a 1950’s Dublin pathologist named Quirke. His first name is a mystery. The series will consist of three stand-alone 90 minute stories and filming will begin in Ireland later this year. Writer Banville said that Byrne is the perfect choice for the title role. The screenplays will be adapted from Banville’s books by veteran BBC writer Andrew Davies.
