Foyle’s War is set to return to TV screens on both sides of the Atlantic in 2013. U.S. based Acorn Media acquired broadcast rights to the show in 2010 and are behind the drive to have three new 2 hour long stories produced later this year. Michael Kitchen will resume his role as the title character while Anthony Horrowitz will pen two of the three new scripts. Jill Green’s Eleventh Hour Films will produce the new episodes which will air on ITV in the UK and a yet to be selected U.S. network.
The new series of Foyle’s War is to be set in post World War II Britain. Foyle has been promoted to a role as a Senior Intelligence Officer. His primary task is to protect British interests against foreign interference and to investigate alleged communist sympathizers and traitors who have infiltrated the government. Most elements in the stories are based upon true historical events.
Acorn Media have long been associated with Foyle’s War having first bought the DVD rights to the show back in 2003. More recently, the show has been among the offerings available through Acorn’s British TV streaming service. Filming is set to commence in the Fall and further details will be released as the air date nears.
