The BBC have commissioned Tiger Aspect Productions and Lookout Point to co-produce a new drama serial. Ripper Street will consist of eight episodes which are being penned by Richard Warlow (Mistresses, Waking The Dead). It is set in 1889 in the immediate aftermath of Jack the Ripper’s killing spree. The show will focus on the efforts of the beleaguered police force to keep law in order in the crime ridden Whitechapel area.
Fans of shows that are based around Jack the Ripper but that do not actually involve him will also be pleased to hear that work has begun on filming season three of Rupert Penry-Jones’ hit ITV cop show Whitechapel. Both Whitechapel and Ripper Street are likely to air in 2012.
